Naturalistic Family Garden
An informal and dynamic garden with wildlife at its heart
This expansive Surrey garden was wild and untamed when we came across it; and we tried to keep that spirit alive in the design. The aim here was to tread lightly, whilst creating space that was both beneficial to wildlife and a family with young children and pets.
A detailed inventory of existing materials allowed us to include site-won materials in the design from the beginning. The sunken fire pit has gabion walls made up of crushed stone from the previous terrace, and soil was kept on site when the pond was excavated and used to level the lawn.
With a new wildlife pond, meadows, sunken fire pit, kitchen garden, pergola, orchard and a two-storey studio called ‘The Bird Hide’, this garden is one that we hope will be lived in and enjoyed for a very long time.
